- The "History of La Salle Co., ILL" by Elmer Baldwin published in 1877 says that Josiah came to the county in 1833. He built a flouring mill on the Vermillion, which was completed in 1836. He sold the mill to Messrs. Todd, and moved on a farm in the town of Eden. While descending the Mississippi in a flat boat, he died at Natchez, suspected of poison. He left 3 children, Thaddeus, married Lizzie Denton, lives in Washington, D.C.; Jerome, is in Chicago; Mary is the wife of Willis Stewart, of Putnam Co., Illinois. Mrs. Seybold, Nancy Scanlan, from Virginia, now lives with Mrs. Stewart.
