      A LOUISIANA KILLING
Shooting of a Worthless Cur Brought On a Tragedy.
      Special To The News.
Lake Charles, La., March 15.  Another of the frightful tragedies which have of late so frequently disgraced the fair fame of Calcasieu Parish was enacted late last evening at a point three miles west of Oakdale, about 50 miles northwest of this city on the Watkins Railroad.  Jerry Cloud, a logman, was riding home along the road with his little son riding behind, when a man stepped out into the road and shot him, killing him instantly.  The little boy ran to the nearest neighbors and gave the alarm, but when the rescuing party reached the spot the assassin had disappeared and the victim lay dead in the road.  About two weeks ago Mr. Cloud was annoyed by a worthless yellow dog, belonging to C.C. Johnson, who lived in the vicinity, and shot the dog, killing him.  Johnson was very much incensed over the act.
Sheriff Perkins, Deputy Richard and Coroner Watkins returned this evening from Oakdale, where they held an inquest.  Cloud's 10-year-old son was the main witness.  He stated that Johnson was the man who shot his father, positively recognizing him.  He testified that before the shooting Johnson said, "You killed my dog and I kill you."  The bullet entered just at the right of the nose, passed through the lower portion of skull and lodged in the muscles of the back.  The jury's verdict was that deceased came to his death from gunshot, and to the best of their belief Johnson was the assassin.  Johnson was put in jail to await the Grand Jury's action.
