    Notes
    • She abandoned her youngest daughter Emma and her nieces remember her coming back when she was grown and trying to get back into her life.
In a letter postmarked Mar 25, 1952, from Mrs. O. Swearingen, 902 Glade Water Rd, Longview, Texas, Olivette writes to Mr. D.E. Whittington (her brother):
      -
      Dear Brother & Family:
I received your letter and it was a pleasure to read.  I am very sorry I did not mention about the perfume.  I thought I had.  But I have such a bad memory and I am also a bad correspondent.  I just hate to write letters but I love to receive them.  I know this is inconsistent of me but it seems I never know what to put in a letter.  The small ordinary happenings of life are so trivial.  I did receive the perfume, also Victoria and it is the kind I love.  Thanks a lot.  Do you ever see Emma?  I wrote to her and she answered and I write again but never did hear any more I do not know if she received my last letter or not.  I sure wish I had a picture of her and her family to put with my other babies pictures.  I have some pictures of her when she was a baby also of the people who raised her but I would like to have a picture of her, her husband and her children as they are now.  I would be very proud of them.
Well I guess I will close as I am rather ill and not very strong although I am the picture of health I am gaining weight.  I don't know how I do as I don't eat any thing much and no sweets.  I weigh 124 lbs.
I hope this find every one well.
            Your Sis Olivette

    • It is curious that the 1930 census indicates they married in 1914, and they witnessed Olivette's brother's marriage in 1917 (Olivette giving her last name as Williams), but in 1920 Victor is living with J.W. & Evie Head as a lodger and listing himself as widowed.
In 1975, his daughter filed an amended birth certificate which had originally listed her mother as Ella Childress and now lists Selma Seybold as her mother.  So Ella died either at childbirth or shortly thereafter and Selma assumed the role of her mother.
