William Thomas Cloud was an affable, well met man, a carpenter and cabinet maker by trade and said to be a fine craftsman. He married the first time to Elizabeth Busick, who died in childbirth on March 2, 1861 at the age of 23 years, 6 months, and 11 days. The infant died March 6, 1861. The two are buried in the old cemetery (south of the road) in Orleans, Indiana. His second marriage was July 5, 1863, to Nancy J. Chism, who died November 8. 1864 at the age of 26 years, 8 months, and 3 days. During the Civil War he served a short time as 1st Lieutenant in Company K, 53rd Indiana Infantry Volunteers. He was married on December 10, 1865 (by Rev. John Talbott) to Nancy Ann (Shields) McKnight. Nancy Ann was a widow, who had one child by her previous marriage Mary F.
