George Grimes DeGarmo, came from a large family in Randolph County, Virginia and married twice, first to Emily Caroline Wright and second to Eliza Jane Hase.
George and Emily were the parents of Edward "Eddie", Elizabeth Rose (married a man named McCommas), Theresa Sarah (married Bill Shipman), Arlie and James Asa DeGarmo.
At one time George had a contract to supply beef for the Yellowstone Indian Reservation in what is now Yellowstone National Park.  He hired several cowboys including his son James Asa DeGarmo to help make a cattle drive, and drove a large herd from the Sherman-Denison-Paris, Texas area to Wyoming, without having to go through any fences.
James Asa later went to work for the Katy Railroad in Denison, Texas and moved in 1903 to work for the Santa Fe Railroad first as a fireman, then later as a locomotive engineer.
In 1909, James Asa married Minnie Elizabeth Merriman and three sons were born to this family, named James M. (Mayor of Cleburne at one time), L.M. (Past Lieutenant Governor of Texas-Oklahoma District of Kiwanis International) and Edward Ball, served in the military during World War II and the Korean conflict.
George Grimes DeGarmo married again and he and Eliza had a son named Luther DeGarmo.
Theresa Sarah DeGarmo's half-brother, Luther, came to visit the Shipman family many times in the Ardmore area.
