- He died of gangrene from a gunshot wound to the right leg below the knee by a 12 ga. shotgun. Witnessed by Mrs. Rose Slack of the same residence.
The San Antonio Light, Tuesday, Sept. 26, 1939, p. 20: He was shot while hunting about 16 miles soutn of the city on the old Pleasanton road. He was a former city fireman and jail guard under Sheriff Albert West Jr. His mother, Mrs. Sam Slack, made a plea for blood for him.
