Herford Expert Dies After Illness
Joseph Herbert Carrier, 50, of 4021 Patte Ann Drive, Mid-South field representative for the American Association, died at 5:16 p.m. yesterday in Memphis Veterans Hospital after a long illness. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Memphis Funeral Home on Union with burial in Oak Forest Cemetery. Mr. Carrier, a leading figure among Mid-South Hereford breeders, was named in 1971 as one of the two men in the state having made outstanding contributions to agriculture by the Block and Bridle Club of the College of Agriculture at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He was a member of several national and regional cattle and breeder organizations and helped organize junior Hereford clubs in Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana. He was a charter member of Grace United Methodist Church. His, wife, Mrs. Ruth H. Carrier, is principal at Geeter Elementary School. He also leaves two sons, Lynn Carrier and Randall Carrier, both of Memphis; two brothers, Arthur Carrier of Lockwood, MO., and Phillip Carrier of Portland, Ore., and a granddaughter.
