MARTHA GUYNES
[Died] At the residence of her son, R. A. Guynes, in Waco, Texas, at 2:50 o'clock a.m., on Wednesday, April 3, 1935, Mrs. Martha Frances Guynes, aged 86 years, 5 months and 26 days. Deceased was a native of Copiah County, Mississippi, where she was born July 8, 1848 but had resided at Pollock, Grant Parish, a greater portion of her life. She was the widow of the late Major W. P. Guynes, who was mayor of Pollock for many years, and who died in 1922. She had been residing with her son in Waco for the past year. She had been ill for three weeks, but her condition was not considered serious. However, she became suddenly worse, and passed away in a short time. She is survived by one daughter and two sons. They are Mrs. Ella G. Atwell, of Baton Rouge; Robert A. Guynes, of Waco, Texas and William F. Guynes, of Jackson, Mississippi.
Mrs. Guynes, had been a devout member of the Baptist Church, for many years. Her body arrived here at 2 o'clock this morning, and was later conveyed to the home of Mrs. Olive Gooding, in Pollock, where it remained until the hour of the funeral at 4 o'clock, Thursday afternoon. The procession left the residence of Mrs. Gooding at that hour and went to the Pollock Baptist Church, where services were conducted by Rev. A. E. Pardue, assisted by Rev. Fogleman, the pastor of the church, after which interment was made in the Guynes family cemetery near Pollock, under the direction of Hixson Bros., local funeral directors.
