He liked sports and played semi-professional football.  For a while he courted Iris Hankins, but after high school his family moved to Klamath Falls.  Then he met Jewell. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. As an adult he was active with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1383 and the Elks Lodge No. 1247.
