She died at age 84 in Brownwood but was buried at the Buckhorn cemetery.
Before his death in 1987, grandson AJ Smith told Betty Meischen that Emma's best friend had been Elizabet Ney the world famous sculpturess of Waller County, owner of the Liendo Plantation that had once belonged to the Groce family. AJ told Betty that his grandmother had several trunks of Confederate money in the attic of their home in Bellvile which he used to play with. It burned in the fire.
Emma Stephenson Hoffman belonged to the Church of Christ in Brownwood.
