- "Samuel McFadin's family arrived in old Tryon county, North Carolina, about 1768 from Frederick county, Maryland. He was the fourth child of John McFadin. Samual married Lucy Hampton in NC about 1770-72 and had eight children all reportedly born in NC between 1783 and 1798. He is said to have served in the Revolutionary War but conflicting reports disagree as to which military unit. Some place him in the 1st Virginia Regiment of the Continental Line for which its "Samuel McFation" received a bounty land warrant in Kentucky dated 16 May 1796 and claimed in August 1796.
In 1790 Samuel McFadin and his family were in Rutherford county, North Carolina (formerly a part of old Tryon county), per the Federal Census. Between then and 1799 he may have traveled to the area of southern Logan county, KENTUCKY, perhaps to claim land in 1796. And a Samuel McFadin was also granted land in 1799 and 1800 in Christian county, Kentucky.
Samuel's date of death is unknown, but he is said to have been buried at Pilot's Knob in present day Simpson county, Kentucky. He did not go with his brothers William and Andrew to Indiana in 1806." (email from David McFadden)
