- Obituary:
Chester Bell Thomas Hovermale, 85, died at BAMC Hospital, San Antonio, Texas on Thursday, August 23, 2007.
He was born May 26, 1922 in Berkeley Springs, son of Harry Webster Hovemale and Agnes Dawson Hovermale.
He was preceded in death by his two brothers Harry V. (Diz) Hovermale and Donald Lee Hovermale; and three sisters, Helen Ray Burkhart, Earle Marie Crow and Edith Cordelia Householder.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Jenkins Hovermale; one daughter, Cheslee Inselmann; one son, Jerry Dean Hovermale; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother, Herbert Leroy Hovermale and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
As a Chief Gunners Mate in the Navy, he served in the Pacific operation during World War II, on the FDR aircraft carrier, and retired as an instructor at the Maine Maritime Academy in Castine Maine in 1960. He began a second career with the postal service and retired as a letter carrier in 1984.
Graveside services were at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Tuesday, August 28.
