    Notes
    • They lived in Georgia until about 1818.
A post office was established at Monacks, Montgomery county Alabama on August 21, 1818 with Maximilian C. Armstrong appointed as first postmaster.  The census records for 1830, Butler county, show him to be between 50 and 60 years of age but so does the next census of 1840.
He was referred to as "senior" so it is assumed he had a son named after himself.
It is probable he had another son -- on OCT 19 1837, James W. Armstrong married Mary Ann Cleghorn in Montgomery county.  Since Mack Armstrong and John Cleghorn lived near each other, it has been assumed they were the parents of this young couple.
