- Plaintiff Elvira states she and Austin married at age 15 and 16 respectively. In the original bill, Elvira accuses Austin of adultery -- with Vina Collins, Emily Shackelford and Harriet Collins, among others, and states: "the truth is he was led astray by bad women, and his affections were turned away from your oratrix by their wicked arts."
Austin made no defense and a divorce was granted in June 1858. Elvira was given full custody of their child Martha Emeline Coffee.

- Grainger County 1873 Circuit Court divorce case: Elizabeth Dalton Coffey vs Austin Coffey. Elizabeth states Austin returned home after the war and stayed a few days and then deserted her for two years. When he finally returned, he brought with him a woman whom he claimed as his wife, and four children, and then left again. Again, Austin does not respond to the subpoena, so a divorce is granted in April 1874 with Elizabeth (Dalton) Coffey getting custody of the two children Huldy and Ida.
