  Notes	He received a pension for Service in the Mexican War (1846-1848) Cloud. John Calvin, AR, CA, 15 June 1888, Appl. #19670, Cert. #16454 Service: Sgt. under Capt. Collier in Co. A Gray's Battn. AR Vols.  Enlisted about Sept. 1846 Fort Smith, AR; discharged: Aug. 1847, Fort Gibson.  John Calvin Cloud was born 11 March 1822, Claiborne Co. TN. He married Emily Hamm 4 January 1848 in Johnson Co. AR, who died 1854 in Arkansas. John Calvin was living in San Luis Obispo (San Luis Obispo Co.) CA when he applied for pension on 7 June 1888.  He states that "during my entire service I did garrison duty at Fort Smith and Fort Gibson, Ark." Since his discharge from service, he has resided "mostly in California." John Calvin was granted a pension of $8 per month beginning 29 January 1887 by a certificate issued 22 June 1888.
