The CLOUD FAMILY; by Rachel Adams (Cloud) Pond

This is an on-line presentation of the excellent work by researcher Rachel Adams (Cloud) Pond and her husband Rev. Clifton Pond. This is the first edition of their book, published in 1961. They apparently published updated versions in 1962 and 1965. It is a basic reference work on the Cloud Family but data from it should be carefully checked for errors with original documents where possible.
The transcription of this book was respectfully done by Cloud family researchers Ruth and Allen Harris with the intent of sharing it with other researchers.
One source used is the book by Thomas Maxwell Potts of 1893. A later 1911 version is available here – "Genealogical Notes of the Cloud Family".
** This book is known to contain a few errors, and there are possibly more that have not been found. It is still a useful resource, just be careful and "verify, verify, verify".

The frequent use of the same given names has caused a lot of confusion and many mistakes. For example, the names William, Jeremiah, John, James, Robert, Thomas, and others were used repeatedly in the same time periods, the same places, and in close family lines. (See "Cloud given names – by frequency" – that list contains given names to present, so it is not entirely representative of the earlier period.). Once again – be careful as you do your research.
